So today I got totally hooked on this random question: what actually are the longest bridges out there? Seriously, some of these things look like they stretch on forever! Started my usual rabbit hole dive, figured I should share how it all went down today.
The Accidental Journey Begins
Was cleaning up my garage, found an old photo from a trip where I drove over this massive bridge – felt like ages. Couldn’t even remember its name! That sparked the whole thing. Pulled out my phone right there, leaning on the dusty workbench, typing “world longest bridges” into the search bar.
The Messy Online Hunt
Man, things got messy fast. First few pages? Super confusing. Lists conflicted – was it some viaduct in China? A bridge in Thailand? Kept seeing terms like “viaduct” popping up, had to double-check what that even meant again (turns out it’s basically a long bridge with arches, right?). Maps were my next stop. Tried putting pins on locations:
- Zoomed into China near Shanghai – holy cow, looks like endless water crossings!
- Searched for Thailand near Bangkok – yep, one super long road bridge.
- France? Spotted this super tall, graceful one.
But the map markers started blurring together. My eyes crossed trying to compare distances visually.
Grinding Through the Details
Switched tactics. Dumped the browser tabs, opened Feishu documents instead. Forced myself to compile a simple top 5 based purely on length. Needed hard numbers, official names. Spent way too long:
- Verifying if a bridge was actually multiple bridges glued together.
- Figuring out if “longest bridge” meant continuous over water or including land bits.
- Scratching my head over height vs length – discovered that French viaduct isn’t super long but is crazy tall.
Got sidetracked binge-watching drone footage of trains crossing these monsters. Time flies when you’re lost on Youtube!
The Final Tally (As Best I Got It)
After bouncing between websites, maps, and videos, here’s what stuck:
- Danyang-Kunshan Grand Bridge (China): Over 100 miles long? Felt unreal. Like driving for hours just on a bridge.
- Changhua–Kaohsiung Viaduct (Taiwan): Part of that bullet train line. Seriously long stretch.
- Cangde Grand Bridge (China): Another massive one in China. Seems they specialize in these!
- Tianjin Grand Bridge (China): Also near Beijing. The scale is just mind-boggling.
- Bang Na Expressway (Thailand): An elevated road? Didn’t expect that on the list!
Bonus Tall Guy: The Millau Viaduct in France. Not longest, but dang, it’s high! Pictures make your stomach drop.
Wrapping It Up
Honestly, got way deeper into this than planned. Those bridge lengths are seriously hard to imagine until you see the drone shots crossing forever. My garage is still half-cleaned! But hey, learned something random today. Next time I cross a long bridge, maybe I’ll appreciate it a tiny bit more. Alright, time to finish sorting those old tools! Later!
