Today I am going to tell a very old but meaningful story that many children may have heard before, it is called The Wolf Comes. This story tells us a very important truth – we should be honest and not just tell lies.
A long time ago, there was a small village with many people living in it.Every morning, a little boy would drive all the sheep in the village to graze on the hillside. That place was rich in water and grass and sunshine, and the sheep ate fat and looked very healthy.
It was the boy’s job to keep an eye on the sheep, to keep them from running away and to keep wild animals from harming them.Because wolves sometimes came out, the people in the village gave him special instructions, “If you see a wolf coming, cry out for help, and we will come right over to help you.”
At first, the little boy found the job quite refreshing, but as time went on, he found it particularly boring.Every day he stayed alone on the hillside, with no friends, no one to talk to, not even a playmate. So he began to think of an idea to get people to pay attention to him.
One day he brought his flock to the hillside again.Seeing no one around, he shouted, “The wolf is coming!Come and save me!”
When the villagers heard his cries for help, they immediately put down the work they were doing and rushed to the hillside. But when they got there, they found that the sheep were all grazing quietly, and the little boy was lying on the ground smiling.
Someone asked, “Where is the wolf?Didn’t you say the wolf was coming?”
The little boy smiled and said, “Oh, the wolf has just been beaten away by me.”
Although everyone knew he was lying, they didn’t blame him too much, but just reminded him not to shout in the future.

After a few days, the little boy got bored again, so he shouted again like last time, “The wolf is coming!Come quickly and save me!”
This time the villagers rushed up again and the result was the same, no wolf in sight.Everyone got a little upset, but they didn’t say anything and went home.
The little boy was a little sad when he saw that everyone had gone, and thought to himself, “Maybe I shouldn’t have lied, or else everyone would have ignored me.”
But just then, all of a sudden, the sheep stirred and some of them ran everywhere in fear. The little boy looked up and saw that there really was a big gray wolf standing not far away, staring at him!
He was so frightened that he hurriedly stood up and shouted, “The wolf is really coming!Come and save me!Come and save me!”
But when the villagers heard this, no one moved.Someone said, “The boy is always lying, he must be up to no good again.”So everyone went on about their business and no one went to help him.
The little boy was so anxious that he cried, and as he cried he shouted, “This time it’s true! The wolf is really coming! If you don’t come, the sheep will be bitten to death!”
At this time, a few adults saw him crying very sadly and thought that this time it might be real, so they rushed up the hillside to take a look.
Sure enough, the hillside was in chaos, and several sheep had already been bitten to death by the wolves. The little boy was full of guilt and said to everyone, “I’m sorry, I know I’m wrong.I will never lie again, please forgive me.”
The villagers looked at his sincere look and didn’t blame him anymore. In order to make him less lonely, the village even sent a little girl to accompany him to herd sheep.
After that, the little boy never lied again. He realized that although lying is fun for a while, you will lose other people’s trust, and when you really need help, no one will be willing to believe you.
What I wrote to the children:
Dear children, after listening to this story, do you also understand something?
In fact, everyone makes mistakes at times. What is important is that we should be brave enough to admit our mistakes and try to correct them.Just like the little boy in the story, he didn’t know what he was doing at the beginning and always lied to people, then he realized his own problem and sincerely apologized, and finally he was forgiven by everyone.
Each of us should learn to be honest and not to tell lies.Because only honest people will win the trust and respect of others. If you often lie, others won’t believe you anymore, and even if what you say is true, others may not believe you.
So we should tell the truth no matter what and be a good and trustworthy boy.
