Today, we’re going to share a classic Grimm’s Fairy Tale, “The Wolf and the Seven Young Kids”. This is a story about vigilance and wisdom, about how the seven young kids fell into danger because they believed the wolf’s sweet talk, and how they eventually managed to escape with the help of their mother.
1. Mother Goat’s Advice
Once upon a time, there was an old goat who had seven cute baby goats and loved them very much. One day, the old goat had to go into the forest to find food. Before leaving, it called the seven baby goats over to it and said seriously, “Children, when I’m gone, you must be careful and never let the wolf into the house. This bad guy will disguise himself in various guises to trick you. But you will know it when you hear its raspy voice or see its black paws.”
The kids replied in unison, “Don’t worry, Mom, we’ll be careful!”
Still, the old goat was a little worried, but she left the house anyway.
2. The wolf’s first attempt
Soon after, a cunning wolf arrived at the goat’s house and knocked on the door, shouting, “Children, your mother is back, open the door!”
The young goats immediately became alert. They looked at each other and said, ”You are not our mother! Our mother’s voice is very pleasant, not as hoarse as yours!”
The wolf was very unhappy when he saw that his plan had failed. So he ran to a grocery store and bought a large piece of glue to eat. The glue made its voice thinner and softer.

3. The wolf’s second attempt
The wolf went to the goat’s house again and shouted in his new voice, “Children, open the door quickly, your mother is back!”
This time, the kids saw the wolf’s claws through the door crack and noticed that they were black and dirty. They shouted together, ”You are not our mother either! Our mother doesn’t have such black claws!”
The wolf was furious when it heard this. It went to the miller and lied, saying that it had accidentally soiled its paws and asked the miller to sprinkle some flour on its feet. In this way, the wolf’s paws became white and clean.
4. The wolf’s trick succeeds
The wolf came to the goat’s house for the third time and called in a soft voice, “Children, open the door quickly, your mother is back!”
The young goats saw that the wolf’s claws were white and thought that it really was their mother returning, so they opened the door. Unexpectedly, as soon as the wolf entered the house, he revealed his true nature, opened his huge mouth and swallowed the six young goats. Only the youngest goat, which had been hiding in the clock box, was not discovered and luckily escaped.
After the wolf had eaten his fill, he left the goat house contentedly and lay down under a big tree to sleep.
5. The wise goat mother
When the old goat returned home, it found the door wide open and the room in a mess. It looked anxiously around and finally found the young goat hiding in the bell box. After listening to the young goat’s story, the old goat was heartbroken.
Then it remembered that the wolf was still sleeping under the tree, so it quickly fetched some scissors and needle and thread, and crept up to the wolf. The old goat carefully cut open the wolf’s stomach, and six baby goats jumped out one after the other. They joyfully hugged their mother.
The old goat said to the kids, “Go and find some big stones and put them in the wolf’s belly!” The seven kids quickly dragged a lot of stones and desperately stuffed them into the wolf’s belly. Then the old goat quickly sewed up the wolf’s belly, and the wolf didn’t notice at all.
6. The end of the wolf
When the wolf woke up, he felt thirsty. He got up and staggered to the well to quench his thirst. As he bent down to drink, the stones in his stomach were too heavy and he fell into the well. He could not climb out and eventually drowned.
Since then, the goat family has lived a happy and peaceful life.
Words to tell children
1. Be wary of strangers
Children, don’t be as gullible as the little goats and believe the sweet nothings of strangers. Whether it’s candy, an invitation to play, or pretending to be someone you know, always be on your guard.
2. Learn to identify danger
Although the little goats in the story were able to see through the wolf’s disguise at first, they were later deceived by the wolf’s “change”. This reminds us that when faced with the unknown, we should learn to observe and think more, and not easily believe what we see.
3. Remain calm in the face of danger
Mother Goat used her wisdom to rescue her children, which teaches us that when we encounter difficulties or danger, we should not panic, but remain calm and find a solution.
Through the story of “The Wolf and the Seven Young Goats,” we not only felt the exciting plot, but also learned important safety knowledge. I hope every child can remember these lessons and protect themselves in life!
