Grimm’s fairy tale “The Three Feathers”

Today we are going to tell an interesting and instructive fairy tale – The Three Feathers. It is a story about courage, hard work and perseverance. The protagonist of the story is a young prince who is often looked down upon, but he continues to perform his tasks seriously, and in the end he not only wins the race, but also becomes a wise and kind king.

Three Princes and the Trials of an Old King

Once upon a time, there was an old king who had three sons. The eldest and second sons were big and confident, but a little proud. They often teased their youngest brother, saying he wasn’t smart, and even gave him the unflattering nickname “Dumb Brother.

But the little prince was actually a very hard worker, he just didn’t like being in the limelight.

One day, the old king decided to find the most suitable heir to the throne. He called his three sons and said, “Each of you go and find the most beautiful carpet. The one who finds the best will inherit the throne.

To make the competition fair, he blew three feathers. The feathers fell east, west, and one right at the feet of all three.

The eldest son immediately went to the east, the second to the west, and the youngest prince looked at the feather at his feet and had to find out where it was.

The secret underground entrance

The young prince was disappointed because he didn’t know where to go. But when he looked closely at the feather on the ground, he noticed that it had landed on a raised stone. He moved the stone and was surprised to see a manhole cover underneath. There was a ladder under the manhole cover and he climbed down.

At the bottom of the well was a small door, and the little prince took courage and knocked on it.

The door opened and a big toad appeared in front of him, surrounded by many other little toads. The big toad asked, “What are you doing here?

The little prince replied politely, “I’m looking for the most beautiful carpet in the world.

The big clam toad nodded and then said something to the little toad, who fetched a delicate little box.

The little prince opened the box and saw that inside was the most beautiful carpet he had ever seen, brightly colored, beautifully patterned, and very special.

The superficial behavior of the brothers

The first and second princes did not look hard enough. They casually bought two ordinary rugs from the shepherds and returned to the palace.

When the three returned to the palace, the king examined each carpet.

When he saw the rugs that the youngest prince had brought back, he said happily, “You have searched well, and this rug is the best!

The two brothers were not convinced and asked for another round of the competition.

Round Two: Find the Most Beautiful Ring

The old king set a new challenge: “This time, go and find the most exquisite ring.

Again he blew three feathers. The feathers still split in three directions, and the little prince stayed where he was.

Once again he went to the bottom of the well and found the big toad.

This time the big toad gave him a small box, and inside was a glittering ring, beautifully made.

The brothers did it the old-fashioned way, each buying a ring at random from the silversmith.

When they returned to the palace, the king looked at the rings and immediately knew which was the best. He praised the young prince once more, saying that he was the most qualified to inherit the throne.

Round 3: Finding the Most Beautiful Bride

The brothers were still not satisfied. They said, “Please give us one more chance!” The king had to agree and offer a third test.

This time he said, “Whoever can bring back one of the most beautiful girls will inherit the throne.

Still blowing feathers to determine the direction, the little prince returned to the bottom of the well.

This time, the big toad gave him a strange gift: a hollow pumpkin and six little mice.

The little prince was confused and didn’t know what it meant. The big toad told him, “Take a little toad and put it in the pumpkin and try it.

The little prince did as she said, and the pumpkin turned into a beautiful carriage, the mice turned into six horses, and the little toad turned into a beautiful girl!

The little prince was so happy that he took the girl’s hand and rode back to the palace in the carriage.

Brother’s Girl vs. Little Prince’s Girl

The first and second princes, on the other hand, randomly found two ordinary peasant girls on the street and brought them back to the palace. They were healthy but ordinary looking and not well dressed.

After the king saw the three girls, he immediately distinguished that the girl brought by the youngest prince was the prettiest and most elegant. He decided to give the throne to the young prince.

The final round of the competition: jumping through hoops.

Still refusing to accept defeat, the two brothers proposed a final round of competition. They said, “We will see whose girl can jump over the iron ring that hangs outside the palace gates. The one whose girl can jump over it will win.”

They thought that the farmer’s girl was strong and easy to jump over. And the young prince’s girl looked soft and slender and should not be able to jump over it.

The king agreed.

The two peasant girls jumped first. Although they jumped over, one fell to the ground and the other hurt her arm.

Finally, it was the prince’s little girl’s turn, she jumped gently, not only managed to jump over the iron ring, but also moved gracefully and landed firmly.

This time, the two brothers were unable to speak.

The little prince becomes king

Finally, the old king gave the throne to the little prince.

The little prince married the beautiful girl and lived happily ever after. When he became king, he took his responsibilities seriously, took care of the people, and became a good and beloved king.

What the story teaches us

This story teaches us not to underestimate people who look ordinary and do not like to show off. The really good ones are the ones who are down to earth and take every task seriously.

Although the little prince was looked down upon by others, he never gave up. With perseverance and hard work, he accomplished all the tasks and finally won the king’s trust and the throne.

Children, we should be like the little prince, work seriously and not be afraid of being ridiculed by others. As long as you put your heart into it, you will always get something.
