Today we are going to tell you the story of a little penguin. This little penguin’s name is Paulino. He lives in a very cold place where there is a lot of snow and ice. His everyday life is actually quite boring because his mom and dad have gone to work and he’s only at home with his grandmother.
Even little penguins are lonely
One day, Paulino said to his grandmother, “Grandma, can we go out together? I want to play ball.”
Grandma smiled and said, “Sure, but I have to finish this scarf. Wait for me a little while, okay?”
Early the next morning, Paulino ran to her grandmother again, “Grandma, can we go play today?”
But she found her grandmother sitting by the fireplace, already asleep.
At this time, Paulino felt particularly meaningless, so she ran to ask Uncle Clock, “When are Daddy and Mommy coming back?”
Uncle Clock looked at his hands and said slowly, “It’s still early.
Paulino sighed and said, “Ugh, I’m so bored, I don’t know what to do.
Uncle Clock thought for a moment and said, “Why don’t you go for a walk and maybe meet some new friends. I can take you out.”
The Little Penguin Who Went Out to Make Friends
Paulino was so happy to hear this that he went out with Uncle Clock. They walked through the soft white snow, looking for a little friend to play with. But after a long time of searching, they didn’t even see a shadow.
Just when Paulino was a little disappointed, he suddenly saw a hole in the ground, and there was water in the hole. As he looked at it, a little red fish jumped out of the hole, turned two heads in the air, and then fell back into the water with a “flop”.
Paulino called quickly: “Hello! My name is Paulino, can we be friends?”
He waited and waited, but the little fish didn’t answer at all.
He had an idea: he took a piece of paper and asked Uncle Clock to help him write a sentence – “Will you be my friend?” Then he tied the paper to a fishing hook and carefully threw it into the ice hole.
After a while, the line suddenly moved and the fishing rod was almost bent. “Wow!” A small red fish jumped out of the water with the paper in its mouth.
It turned out that the little fish was called Martino. It was the second time he had seen Paulino.

The little fish and the little penguin became friends
Paulino was so happy that he invited Martino to go for a ride with him.
Martino smiled and said, “I’d like to go, but I’m a fish and I can’t leave the water.”
Paulino thought about it and immediately ran home and got a clear glass bowl, filled it with water, and then carefully put Martino in the bowl. That way, Martino could go out with him!
They got into the sleigh together. Paulino asked excitedly, “Can I go?”
The sleigh was a little worried and asked him, “Can you drive?”
Paulino said confidently, “Of course I can, I’m very good!”
Even though Uncle Clock was a little worried, he gave it a try.
The sleigh took off
The sleigh began to run on the snow, faster and faster. Suddenly, a big hole appeared in the ice in front of it. Paulino turned the wheel, and the sleighs flew off, and with a whoosh, they all flew out and fell into a huge snowdrift.
Strangely enough, the snowdrift looked like a man, with a nose and eyes. It turned out to be a big snowman! The big snowman said angrily, “Oops, you broke me! You took off my nose and eyes!”
Everyone looked around, and sure enough, there was a carrot on the floor and a big blue button on Martino’s glass bowl.
Paulino quickly apologized, “I’m sorry, we didn’t mean it!”
Everyone worked together to put the carrot and button back together and to put a warm scarf on the big snowman.
The big snowman finally smiled and said, “Okay, I forgive you all. Have fun.”
The End of a Beautiful Day
It was getting dark and Paulino put Martino back in the ice cave. They said goodbye and promised to see each other again.
Paulino hurried home and just as he walked in the door, he saw his mom and dad standing in the doorway to greet him. They asked, “Dear Paulino, how was your fun today?”
Paulino smiled and said, “It was so much fun! I made a new friend, we went for a ride, we had an adventure together, and we met a big snowman!”
Mom and Dad were happy to hear this, too, and they were proud of Paulino.
