Bedtime story: The singing frog

In a quiet and beautiful forest, there was a small pond with crystal clear water. The pond was surrounded by green water plants and colorful flowers, and it was a place where many small animals liked to live. On a lotus leaf in the pond lived a special little frog with a bright green body, a white belly, and a pair of big eyes. What made him most unique was that he loved to sing.

Every morning, as soon as the sun rose, the little frog would stand on a lily pad and begin to sing. “Ribbit, ribbit, ribbit,” his voice was clear and loud. The sound carried across the water and through the forest, attracting many small animals to come and listen.

The birds hop happily on the branches, the fish swim even more joyfully in the water, and even the busy ants carrying food stop to listen carefully for a moment. Everyone knows that it is the little frog singing.

However, not all animals like this sound.

One day, a grumpy alligator was lying by the pond, sleeping, when the little frog’s singing woke him up. He was very upset, glaring angrily and shouting, “It’s too loud! Can you stop singing? I need to rest!” The little frog was terrified; he had never seen such a fierce animal before. From that day on, he dared not sing during the day.

The days without singing made the little frog very sad. It felt like something was missing from life. Every day, it hid under the lotus leaves, watching the other animals play happily while it felt listless.

Bedtime story: The singing frog

One day, a smart and friendly little squirrel noticed the little frog’s distress. It jumped over to the little frog and asked, “What’s wrong? Why haven’t you been singing lately?” The little frog told the squirrel everything that had happened. After listening, the squirrel comforted it, saying, “Don’t worry, we can figure out a solution together.”

So, the squirrel took the little frog to see the big crocodile. They politely said to the crocodile, “Mr. Crocodile, we know we might have disturbed your rest before, and we’re really sorry. But the little frog really loves to sing, and its singing brings joy to many other animals. Can we discuss it and find a solution that works for everyone?”

The big crocodile thought about it and said, “Alright, you can sing when I’m awake, as long as it doesn’t disturb my sleep.” Hearing this, the little frog was very happy and quickly thanked the big crocodile.

From then on, the little frog learned to sing at the right time. When the big crocodile went out to find food or play, it would stand up and continue to sing beautiful melodies. The animals in the forest gathered together again to listen to the little frog’s singing, and smiles appeared on their faces.

But the good times did not last long. Several lumberjacks came to the forest. They began to cut down trees and destroy the environment. Before long, there were fewer and fewer trees by the pond, and many small animals’ homes were destroyed. Seeing all this, the little frog felt very sad. It thought, “I may just be a little frog, but I can still do something.”

So, it decided to make a sound in its own way—to use its singing to awaken everyone’s awareness of protecting the forest.

It stood on the last intact lotus leaf and sang loudly. This time, its song was filled with sadness and worry. The other small animals were moved by its song. Birds flew over and joined in; monkeys jumped from tree to tree, showing how the forest had been destroyed; rabbits pleaded with the loggers not to cut down any more trees.

The loggers saw the animals’ reactions and began to reflect on their own actions. They realized that they had unintentionally harmed many innocent lives. So, they stopped cutting down trees and started planting new ones to help the animals rebuild their homes.

With everyone’s efforts, the forest slowly regained its vitality. More and more trees grew, and the pond water became cleaner. The little frog could sing freely again. Moreover, its singing was more powerful than before because it knew that music could not only bring happiness but also convey responsibility.

Since then, the little frog has become a “star” in the forest. Its story has been spread by many small animals.Whenever new friends came to the forest, they would hear about the little frog who loved to sing. And the little frog would welcome every new friend with its song.

Its song was as warm as sunshine and as nourishing as rain for the entire forest. It told everyone that even the smallest voice can bring about change. As long as you are willing to work hard, even a little frog can protect the beautiful home that belongs to everyone.
