My Messy Journey Figuring This Out
So yesterday, this thought just wouldn’t leave me alone: how do angels, demons, and stuff from the Bible actually interact? Like, do they talk? Fight? Ignore each other? Sounded kinda wild, but I figured the Bible had to have some clues. Grabbed my coffee, my worn-out Bible, and my laptop, ready to dig in.
First step? Pure chaos. I just started typing random stuff into Google. Searched “angels fighting demons Bible,” “demons talking to God Bible,” “Satan and angels Bible.” You name it, I probably searched it. Ended up with about twenty browser tabs open, mostly links to different Bible websites and a couple of confusing religious forum threads. Felt super overwhelmed. The religious words were flying everywhere – principalities, powers, heavenly hosts. Made my head spin.
Okay, plan B. Decided I needed to focus on specific stories people talked about. Jotted down the main ones everyone seemed to mention:
- The whole Job situation (Satan chatting with God, angels doing tasks)
- Daniel’s vision thing with some angel fighting a “prince” (guessing that means demon?)
- Jesus tossing out demons who totally knew who He was
- That weird verse in Jude about Michael arguing with the devil over Moses’ body
- Revelation’s wild war scenes involving angels, dragons, beasts… the whole crew
Time to actually read these myself. Opened my Bible app on my phone. Big mistake. Got distracted by a notification about a sale at the hardware store. Closed the app, grabbed the actual paper Bible off the shelf. Much better. Started flipping pages like crazy, my fingers getting dusty, trying to find Job chapter 1. Felt like it took forever.
Read the Job part. My brain kinda short-circuited. So Satan just… walks into God’s presence? And they have this conversation about messing with Job? Angels are there too? It felt weirdly bureaucratic, like a supernatural board meeting. And God lets Satan wreck Job’s life? Harsh. Wrote down “Satan reports to God?!” in my notebook with a big question mark.
Next up, Daniel 10. This guy Daniel prays, and an angel finally shows up weeks later saying he was held up fighting some “prince of Persia.” Supernatural FedEx running late due to demonic customs delays? Wrote down “Demons can delay angels?”. Made me wonder if there’s invisible wars affecting stuff we can’t see. Freaky.
The Gospels were easier. Jesus just commands demons, boom, out they go. They call Him “Son of God,” begging not to be tormented. Zero negotiation. Clearly, Jesus is the boss. Simple power difference noted.
Then Jude verse 9. Michael and the devil fighting over Moses’ body, and Michael’s like “The Lord rebuke you!” instead of saying stuff himself. Feels like some angelic rule about rank or something. Wrote down “Respect hierarchy? Can’t curse Satan directly?”
Finally, Revelation. Whole different ballgame. Dragons (Satan?), beasts, angels fighting, hurling plagues, throwing Satan into the pit. Full-on supernatural Armageddon. Less interaction, more annihilation. Intense. Felt like reading a cosmic action movie.
Tried to make sense of it all. Pulled out a big piece of paper and some colored pens I found in my kid’s art box. Drew a messy chart:
- God: Top Boss
- Angels: Follow orders, do tasks, fight bad guys when directed
- Satan/Demons: Oppose God & people, need permission sometimes (like Job), lose big time to Jesus, terrified of God’s authority
- Interactions: Mostly conflict (fights, exorcisms), occasional weird meetings (Job 1), knowing who’s who but not friendly chats
My paper looked like a toddler attacked it with markers. Cramped handwriting everywhere. Stuck a green sticky note that said “Spiritual Hierarchy?” near Satan. Put a red one on Michael’s part saying “No Solo Cursing.” Wrote “Jesus = Total Authority” in blue at the bottom. Stuck it all on the wall.
Stared at my messy masterpiece. Honestly? I was hoping for some dramatic conversation transcripts or a cool fight sequence description. Didn’t really find that. Instead, I got moments that showed a clear “pecking order.”
- God reigns supreme.
- Angels execute God’s will.
- Satan and his demons operate only within limits, sometimes needing permission.
- They recognize God’s power but oppose Him.
- Jesus has absolute authority over them.
The interactions? Mostly conflict, power encounters, or that one bizarre “heavenly court” scene with Job. No coffee dates between angels and demons. It’s about authority, rebellion, and the ultimate victory of God.
Ended up taking a picture of my chaotic chart because, let’s be real, it perfectly captured the process – messy, confusing, pieced together. My wife walked in, saw the wall, and just slowly backed out shaking her head. Guess my “deep dive” looked more like a conspiracy theory board.
So yeah. Went in wondering how they interact. Came out realizing the Bible shows less about how they chat and more about where they stand – God’s in charge, His crew serves, the bad guys fight but lose big time. Jesus is the ultimate boss they can’t touch. Feeling semi-coherent about it now, but I’m no expert. Just a guy who spent too long with dusty pages and colored markers!
