Aegishjalmur protection power? (Learn how it works)

First, I was kinda skeptical but curious

Okay, so I kept hearing about this Viking symbol, the Aegishjalmur. People online were going on about how it gives protection, like a magic shield or something. Honestly? Sounded like fantasy stuff to me. But hey, I figured why not actually try it myself? Better than just reading other people’s stories. Needed to see if I could feel anything real.

Getting things ready was messy

First step was trying to draw the damn thing. Got totally confused looking online. Found a bunch of different versions! Eight-pointed star, circle thingy… pictures everywhere looked kinda similar but not exactly the same. Ended up settling on one design that popped up most often. Grabbed my sketchbook and a pencil. Started drawing. Man, getting those intersecting lines right was harder than I thought! Erased so much, the paper went all flimsy on me. Finally got one that didn’t look totally wonky.

What I thought about next:

  • Just drawing it randomly probably wasn’t enough. Felt like I had to do something with it.
  • Wanted something solid, not just on paper. Remembered people carved it into wood or metal.
  • Decided on a wood disc I found in my garage leftover from another project. Had the idea to engrave the symbol onto it.

This turned into its own little adventure. Tried using a cheap wood-burning tool first… total disaster. Burnt the wood too deep in places, lines looked like a drunk kid did them. Scrapped that disc. Found a small piece of birch wood. Switched tactics: drew the symbol clearly on the wood, then used a sharp metal scribe and a hammer to trace over it, making little punched dots to form the lines. Took ages, my wrist was killing me. But finally, I had a physical object.

Trying to actually feel it “work”

Here’s where it got weird. I carried the wood disc in my pocket for a week. Just kinda forgot about it half the time, to be honest. But I did try to pay attention, especially before situations that usually stress me out.

  • Monday: Had a tough meeting at work. Boss was grilling everyone. Usually get knots in my stomach. That day? Still got the knots. Felt it in my pocket during the meeting, didn’t feel any different. Maybe felt a tiny bit calmer? But hard to tell. Could just be placebo.
  • Wednesday: Got yelled at by some angry dude at the store over something stupid. Typical Tuesday for this guy, I guess. Rude as always. Felt the disc, still felt annoyed afterwards. No magical calm shield appeared.
  • Friday: Honestly forgot it was in my pocket for most of the day. Pulled it out later, looked at it. Felt like a cool carved wood thing I made. Nothing more.

Put the disc on my nightstand that night. Slept maybe a tiny bit deeper? But again, could just be wishful thinking. Who knows?

Where I’m at now

So, after a week of messing around? I didn’t suddenly become immune to stress or angry people. Didn’t feel any magical force field. Feels mostly like… a thing I made. Does that mean it has zero power? Not sure. Maybe the power is just about the act of believing you have protection, like a little confidence booster. If carrying this carved doodad makes someone feel braver facing scary stuff, maybe that’s the “magic” right there? For me personally, I didn’t feel any jolt of energy or invisible barrier. Maybe I did it wrong. Maybe it’s all psychological. Either way, it was interesting to finally just try it hands-on instead of wondering. At least now I carved a neat-looking symbol!
