Aesop Fable: The Lion and the Bull

One day a lion was so hungry that he wanted to find something to eat.It happened to be his birthday, so he thought: why don’t we grab a big bull to eat and celebrate.

So the lion pretended to be very enthusiastic and went to the bull and said, “Today is my birthday, I would like to invite you to my house for dinner, and I am going to kill a sheep to treat you properly.”

When the bull heard this, he was a little surprised.Because he himself is a grass-eating animal, never eat meat, but the lion said to kill a sheep to invite him to dinner, this sounds wrong. He thought to himself, “The lion is not usually so polite, so he probably has other plans.”So he decided to follow him and see if he could be careful.

When he arrived at the door of the lion’s house, the bull saw that there were several large pots and large iron forks, which were not used to cook mutton, but looked more like they were meant to be used against a large animal.

The Lion and the Bull

He then looked into the house, did not see any sheep, only to see the lion alone there busy. The bull understood at once: where was the treat, it was clearly trying to eat himself!

Thinking of this, he turned and ran without saying a word.

The lion saw that the bull was leaving and shouted, “Why are you leaving?I invited you here with all my heart!”

As the bull ran, he shouted back, “Don’t lie, I’ve seen through your trick!”

The truth behind the story

Although this story is short, it is actually about a common real-life situation of “pretending to be nice”.Some people may seem friendly on the surface, even invite you to dinner or give you gifts, but behind the scenes, they may be hiding bad motives.Just like the lion who said he was treating you, but in reality he was doing it for his own benefit.

And the bull?He was not fooled by the superficial enthusiasm, but by observing the details, he recognized the other party’s illusion and protected himself in time.

This story tells us one thing

A truly smart person does not rely on what others say to believe, but observes and thinks carefully, and is able to find hidden problems in some small details. In the face of seemingly well-intentioned behavior, but also to remain vigilant, do not easily fall into the trap of others.

So ah, do people have to have judgment, not just listen to what others say, but also to see how they do.So that you can be in life less to suffer, less to be cheated.
