Once upon a time there was a frog who lived by a pond for a long time and usually played alone and felt a little lonely. One day, it met a little mouse, who was running through the field, looking for something to eat.
The frog looked at the little mouse and thought it was quite cute, so it wanted to make friends with it.To show his closeness, the frog came up with an idea – he got a thin rope and tied his feet to the mouse’s feet.
At first, they went out into the field together to find something to eat.The frog ate worms and the little mouse ate grain, and they all found their favorite food and had quite a good time.
At noon, the sun was very big and it was very hot.The frog said, “Let’s go swimming in the water to cool off.”But the little mouse didn’t know how to swim, and just as he was about to say no, the frog pulled him toward the pond.
To the pond, the frog happily “croak” two, and then a fierce jump into the water. Before the mouse could react, he was dragged into the water.
The mouse struggled desperately in the water, but it could not swim and sank within a few moments, finally drowning.
Just in time, an eagle (also called a harrier) flew over from the sky and saw a dead mouse floating on the water, so it swooped down to catch the mouse. As a result, when it took the mouse up into the sky, it pulled the frog out of the water along with it.
Thus, both the frog and the mouse became the eagle’s dinner.
What is the truth behind this story?
This story is actually about the problem of relationships between people.Sometimes we make irrational decisions because we want to be close to others too much or we are afraid of being alone. For example, tying two people together may seem intimate, but it is actually a sign of over-dependence.
The frog thinks that by being nice to his friend, he is taking him to play, but he doesn’t take into account the feelings and abilities of the little mouse. The little mouse couldn’t swim, but he was forced into the water and ended up losing his life. The frog was not spared either, but suffered together.
What does this story tell us?
Don’t force someone to do something that doesn’t suit him.
Everyone has his own strengths and weaknesses.Just because a frog can swim doesn’t mean a mouse can.If we disregard the other person’s ability and forcefully pull them to do what they can’t do, we may end up harming the other person as well as ourselves.
Keep a proper distance in order to get along in the long run.
The closer friends are to each other, the better. If the relationship is too close, in case of danger, something may happen to both of them.Just like the frog and the mouse, who were just trying to have a good time and ended up getting killed together.
Real friendship is about respect, not control.
True friends should understand and support each other, not tie each other up with ropes. If you really care about someone, you should understand their needs and not just think about what you can do to make yourself happy.
Summary
Don’t rely too much on others and don’t force them to cooperate with you.Real good friends are in the right position to help each other, not tied together towards danger.
